This 'being human' is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival...
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all-
even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The Dark thought
the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Rumi- has always been one of my most favorite voices to follow- and this very poem comes at a very defining time for me as well- thanks for posting it, and as always I thank Rumi for bringing his words to us.
Hmmm, maybe it' just the busy-ness at work, but I'm kind of glad no one is knocking on my door right now! My house is a mess, and I don't really care! :)
I do love contemplating the hidden meanings in the verse, though.
