Race to the Finish

The White Mountains 100 Ultra Marathon concluded approximately 24 hours ahead of schedule, with the final racers working their way to the finish line in the evening hours of Monday, March 22nd. Superb trail conditions, bluebird skies and crisp, hard ice pack contributed to a strong finish for all but one race contender.

Safely back in Fairbanks, I’m digging myself out from under a pile of wet, frozen gear- inventorying medical supplies and cleaning/drying out 100 lbs of safety equipment. With one foot propped on a beagle and a cat draped around my neck for warmth, I figured I’d sip some excellent coffee and take a moment to thank each one of you for following along, watching the race results and cheering for these incredible athletes.

I’ve got stories and photos aplenty, and time enough to share them all (after I get some sleep).

This racer finished strong, in 4th place overall. He just happened to be in the line of the camera lens when I stopped the machine to chose the best path over the ice lakes. His smile never wavered, and he was still grinning ear to ear at the finish line.

Daisy sez, "Quit typing and break out the can opener with those opposable thumbs."

It's good to be back.

Welcome home! Glad to see you're back in one piece, if a bit frozen. Looks like the race was a blast from what I can see. Love the photos (I knew I would).
